After arriving at the port in Thessaloniki, Greece, we enjoyed a 90-minute narrated drive to Vergina, the first capital of the Macedonian Kingdom, which was called Aiges in ancient times. There we were treated with a unique tour of Vergina, visiting the ancient Macedonia's Royal Treasure which was excavated in 1938.
The grass-covered mound was the burial site for all Macedonian royalty, where we did a short walk in the small town on our way to the underground burial site.
There were so many artifacts to explore as checked out the royal tombs, including the marble 336-B.C. tomb of;
King Philip II.
