Arriving on the Celebrity Beyond Cruise Ship in Civitavecchia, Italy for our Mediterranean Cruise at the huge port for cruise ships and very famous in Europe.

Civitavecchia is the port for cruise ships providing access to Rome, about an hour away. The port is very large. If you arrive via cruise ship and want to see Civitavecchia, there is a free shuttle service within the port with stops at the fort and downtown.

It is the gateway to Rome, sitting approximately 80km away to the northwest of the eternal city.

Today, Civitavecchia is a home port to numerous cruise ships from various lines including Costa Cruises, MSC Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line and Celebrity Cruises - our's being the Beyond Cruise Ship for our Mediterranean Cruise.

Italians are very appreciative of Americans and the service men that freed them in WWII. The big statue on the beach symbolizes this. There are some good coffee shops and small restaurant also some Roman ruins you can check out. We  a nice enjoyed walking tour around downtown. Nice friendly town, part of our Mediterranean Cruise on the Celebrity Beyond Cruise Ship.

The Forte Michelangelo is situated close to the harbor of Civitavecchia, Italy. This well preserved 16th century fortress contains Roman ruins as well as the so-called Crypt of Santa Fermina. It is now the headquarters of the port captaincy. 

 You can't go into the fort as it is in use by the Italian military.  It seems well restored though and you can walk a full circuit of the perimiter.  It's certainly an imposing building!

The Tirrenia ferry line connects mainland Italy to the islands of Sicily, Sardinia and Tremiti.

One side of the ship features the Dynamic Duo of Robin and Batman, while the other depicts Batman fighting the Joker. The Tirrenia boat will carry the theme inside, with a DC superhero game room for families.

We are greeted with baggage handlers who get them to the cruise ship for us.  Time to check in on our wonderful 12-night cruise on the beautiful newer and bigger Celebrity Beyond Cruise Ship.  Just look at the pictures!!!
